Omkari Shukla's poem
*I Wish...*
Omkari Shukla
I wish I knew what people thought of me,
I wish I knew what they wanted me to be.
I wish I was perfect in everyone's eyes,
just because they could say I was nice.
I may not be perfect (no one is),
and that's just an illusory dream
because I know I cannot be perfect.
Perfection—Faultlessness,
That's what they mean.
That a person can be
flawless and faultless,
is beyond reach.
I wish I knew what people wanted from me,
I wish I knew as what they saw me.
Some say I'm beautiful,
some say I'm pretty.
Some say I'm ugly,
some say I'm hideous.
Some say I'm effortlessly generous,
some say I'm aiding.
Some say I'm annoying,
Some say I'm sympathy-seeking.
I wish I knew what's true and what's not.
I wish I could know what they talked about me behind my back.
All over, I wish I was perfect.
